The Central Regional Security Council, REGSEC, has unfortunately shut down the University of Education, Winneba-UEW indefinitely following the continuous protest from students for the reinstatement of some sacked lectures.
Some students on Tuesday begun a demonstration for the reinstatement some sacked lecturers by Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni.
The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan announced the closure of the school today.
According to him, REGSEC cannot sit and assume things will go back to normal, therefore, the closure of the school.
“This university for the last three-four days, there have been demonstrations and the Regional Security Council can not sit and say things will normalise, I must first commend the police.”
The police today clash with students at the North campus of UEW, some properties of the school have been destroyed by the students.
The students are demonstrating over what they say are the unjustified dismissal of a number of lecturers supervising students project work by the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni, have caused some destruction at the Junior Common Room and smashed the windscreen of the Students Representative Council bus.
As compared to the last two days of the demonstration, the student crowd has increased, and REGSEC is in a meeting to find a lasting solution to the labour impasse on the campus of UEW.
