The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has criticized Akufo Addo’s creation of new regions stating that as the political leadership of a country it is not a legacy because citizens will not remember you for it.
Mr Bentil also added that, some years back Ghana used to have four regions and later changed to 10, but he cannot recollect the president who changed the number from 4 to 10 regions.
Addressing issues relating to the creation of six new regions in Ghana on Joy FM, Kofi Bentil believed that citizens can easily remember the President who constructed the Domi Bridge and President Mahama for the circle interchange but not the one who changed the number of regions from 4 to 10.
He expressed disappointment over the inability of Akufo-Addo’s administration to create tangible developmental projects especially in the area of infrastructure to provide the conducive living atmosphere for Ghanaians.
“I’m looking for things that will really bring change. Some people say the creation of the new region will bring change and I doubt that.”
President Akufo-Addo in fulfilment of his campaign promise created six additional regions to help decentralized development to the people of Ghana. The President this week gave legal backing the new regions when he presented the Constitutional Instruments for the regions at a ceremony at the Jubilee House.
The new regions include; Oti region, North East, Savannah Region, Bono East, Ahafo and Western North Region.
Commenting on the new regions and the expected development it is supposed to bring to the people, Kofi Bentil said without putting in place the needed development in the regions, the actions will be in vain because development is what the people need and not the mere fact of creating new regions for them.
“I hope that there will be some activities in the new region that will bring some benefits to the people.”
