Security personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have begun the destruction of the ‘shrine’ of the Supremo of the University Hall and others.
In the video published below as found on Ghananewspage.com, the security personnel who were acting on the orders of the Vice Chancellor of the University packed out all the baggage that contained the shrine items including the drums of the Supremo (chief of Katanga Hall).
According to reports, the demolition is to make way for the hall to be turned into a mixed gender facility. It is expected that the University authorities will also carry out a similar activity at the Unity Hall, also known as Continental.
Though the decision by management has been met with stiff opposition by members of the University (Katanga) and Unity Halls, authorities have maintained that the move is to give 50 percent of the space to female students.
The conversion, according to management, will also increase female enrollment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education as well as increase the female population in the school.
The rivalry between both halls has been one of the underlying factors that prompted management’s decision to convert the halls.
GhanaNewsPage.Com reports that some first-year female students have already been assigned to the Katanga hall.
