Volta Region, Ghana –Junior high schools in Afife, a town located in the newly created Ketu North Municipality in the Volta region of Ghana, are excitedly preparing for this year’s AEYA Quiz slated for Friday, March 30, at the Afife E.P. Park.
This annual quiz was instituted by Afife Evergreen Youth Association (AEYA) which was formed in 2010. The group organized its maiden contest for junior high students in Afife and its environs in that same year.
According to the President of the association Major Richard Amedeka, what they seek to achieve is to use education to liberate the people of the traditional area.
“The goal of the association is to harness resources of the youth towards socio-economic development of Afife traditional area with a special focus on promoting quality education,” Major Amedeka said. “ We believe that quality education is the best legacy as it has the power to transform lives and accelerate socio-economic development of our community“.
About 12 schools are expected to take part in this year’s competition. They are Afife Dziehe JHS, Afife Anyiehe JHS, Kingsvoice International School, Divine Academy, Eleme-Sovi JHS, Ewu-Logui JHS, Tsiyinu JHS, Kporkuve JHS, Agorve JHS, Agorvega-Atikpey JHS, New Avalavi JHS, and Afornyaga JHS.
A visit to the schools has revealed how school heads and teachers are busily preparing their students for the contest. The headteacher of Ewu-Logui JHS, Mr. Samuel Goka said his school is fully prepared for this year’s contest.
In an interview with the Assembly Member of the Afife Electoral Area, Hon John Conny Dordoe, he said he was appreciative of AEYA’s quest for curbing the falling standard of education in the area.
“AEYA came at the time we all need it most. We need it to resuscitate the dying education at Afife and its environs “he said.
Past contestants of the AEYA Quiz have put up sparkling performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
There are attractive prizes for those who will excel in this year’s contest.
