The Black Stars midfielder is hoping to begin the Afcon qualifiers on a good noteGhana deputy captain Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew has reiterated the need to kick start the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in a bright fashion as they host Ethiopia at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on June 11.
The Black Stars began a non-residential training session in Accra on Wednesday with 16 players out of 30, including debutants Felix Annan, Stephen Sarfo and Joseph Addo as well as Jordan Ayew and Afriyie Acquah.
Captain Asamoah Gyan teamed up with his colleagues on Thursday after touching down in Accra from United Arab Emirates. Several other players are expected from their base in Europe this weekend.
“It will be very important to start the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on a good note. We have a goal which is qualifying for the tournament,” Ayew said.
“We must start by getting good results here and we know that the bad results we had against Uganda [in Tamale] made our World Cup qualifiers a difficult one even though is not yet over.
“But we have sidelined the World Cup agenda and now thinking about the game against Ethiopia where we want all three points and we’re going to work towards that,” he added.
The Black Stars are expected to move from Accra to Kumasi next week to continue their preparations ahead of the game.
